This winter we found calamondins from one of our favorite farms. The calamondin is a cross between a mandarin orange and a kumquat. The fruit has the scent of oranges and a tart, sour flavor.
We've mixed the calamondins with a hint of saffron for a jam that begins with a tart flavor and follows with layers of rich saffron and orange flavors.
We love this jam served with a cheese platter or a hint mixed into a special cocktail.
